This self drive itinerary combines the Tropical North Queensland Self Drive (6 nights/ 7 days) and the Townsville Self Drive (3 nights/4 days) to provide an experience that showcases the very best of both regions
Day 1 -6 - Cairns (and surrounds), Atherton Tablelands, Gulf Savannah
As described above, your journey begins in Cairns (and surrounds) before heading south and heading into the Atherton Tablelands. After spending two nights in this region, you head west into the Gull Savannah and the awe inspiring landscapes that this region offers.
Day 7 - Charters Towers
Bid farewell to your accommodation in the Gulf Savannah and begin your journey south. Your destination is the very Queensland town of Charters Towers. Step back in time and discover the authentic charm and elegance of this regional town. It is a living montage of Australian history and heritage. When gold was discovered in 1871, the town became a gold rush town and quickly grew to become the second largest in the state.Today you can really feel the history trough the magnificent heritage buildings which are testament to prosperity of years past. You accommodation tonight is at the very unique Kernow Charters Towers.

Day 8 - Townsville
Make your way back towards the coast and the regional city of Townsville. The city combines a vibrant and bustling community, a relaxed North Queensland lifestyle, rich history and stunning natural wonders. Check into your accommodation and look out over the Coral Sea to Magnetic Island. That is for tomorrow however, as you explore the Strand in Townsville, the marina and the many restaurants in the centre of town. Your accommodation boast a bevy of different restaurants and bistros.

Day 9 - Magnetic Island
Today you begin your exploration of Magnetic Island. You are going to need a couple of days to really see what the island has got to offer. From your accommodation walk down to Sealink terminal for your ferry crossing to the Island. Once there you will be met by Magnetic Island Best Bus Tours. Your guide will take you on a journey through time and nature revealing the island’s fascinating past and abundant wildlife. That’s only the first part of the day though, this evening you will head out onto the water for a sunset sail with Pilgrim Sailing. This stunning 58ft yacht will treat you to stunning views, a relaxed atmosphere and the best locally sourced food and wine. What a way to finish this day. Make your way back to your accommodation in Townsville.
Overnight - The Ville Townsville
Day 10 - Magnetic Island
This day promises to be a highlight. Make your way across to Magnetic Island, but today you are exploring the island from the water. The award winning Aquascene is your tour operator today. Visit many of the 23 beautiful beaches, snorkel and interact with some “wildlife friends”, or just sit back and soak up the serenity of a secluded beach or two.
Back to your accommodation in Townsville and the end of a truly epic adventure.
